 Overview

The focus of this lecture will be on the ways in which time and space work together to form the appearance of normality in sequential art.

We will discuss:

  • The idea of closure as the grammar the holds sequence images together.

  • Transitional relationships between adjacent images

  • How time-based events unfold within a single image

  • How gutters( the space between images) alter our understanding of icons

  • How panels effect the way we experience time and space in a sequence of images

  • The results of some early explorations of motion in visual art
