abstract geometric drawing

Sample 1 | Sample 2 | Sample 3 | Sample 4 | Sample 5 | Sample 6 |FAQs

Description

Using simple geometric shapes (circle, ssquare and triangle) create a value drawing that establishes foreground, middleground and background. Use atmospheric perspective, overlapping shapes and contrast in scale to create the illuion of depth.

goals

The purpose of this drawing is to learn how to unite the entire surface of your drawing to create the illusion of deep space. Explore the role of value (dark and light) as dark shapes seem to come forward and light shapes seem to move backwards.

Process

Begin by making some quick thumbnail sketches before you begin your final composition. Onc you have worked out the placement of the shapes, transfer your idea to a larger piece of paper.

Materials

  • 18" x 24" bond paper
  • graphite pencils H, HB, 2B- 8B
  • Ruler
  • Circle templat or compass

Evaluation

You will be evaluated on your ability to create an illusion of depth primarily through the techniuque of atmospheric perspective.
