Your sketchbook will be evaluated 4 times over the course of the semester. Please note: Content is subject to change.
Each sketchbook evaluation is worth 4% for an overall subtotal of 16% of your final grade.
First Evaluation

Rubric
Week 1 (8/16)
Use your sketchbook to capture people as they go about their daily lives. Draw quickly and fill the page with several gesture drawings. Fill at least 5 pages.
Week 2 (8/23)
Do at least 3 blind contour drawings of your hands and 3 of your feet and or shoes.
Week 3 (8/30)
Create 15 modeled drawings of figures from life.
Week 4 (9/6)
Download and copy this drawing of the human skeleton. Include the labels for each bone.
Extra credit: Download and copy this drawing of the male nude by Michelangelo. Try and capture as much detail as you can.
Week 5 (9/13)

Week 10 (10/18)
Option 1: Make a tonal drawing of a glass of water under a spot light. Try to capture as much detail and tonal variety as you can.
Option 2: Your assignment is to make a character sheet for a comic book character. You can invent your own character or delve into one of the many characters that already exist. A character sheet is a page of drawings of your character seen from different angles or with different facial expressions. Character sheets are a standard part of a comic book artist’s portfolio.
Draw at least 15 headshots of your character. Each drawing should be different in some way from the others. For instance, you can change the angle or the facial expression. Refer to this link to help you.

Option 1: Download and copy this drawing of the male nude by Michelangelo.
Option 2: On a character sheet draw at least 5 different views of your character in full body pose.

Extra Credit: Fill two pages with studies of the human figure
Week 12 (11/1)
Option 1: Drape a fabric or garment over a chair and make a tonal drawing of it.
Option 2: Make a drawing of your character in an interior setting and one in an exterior setting.
Extra Credit: Fill two pages with studies of heads with different facial expressions.
Week 13 (11/8)
Option 1: Download and copy this drawing by Rafael.
Option 2: Create a character sheet including head and body shots of a second character that is narratively related to the first. Such as a sidekick, friend or nemesis.
