 Art 106 Sketchbook Assignments

Your sketchbook will be evaluated 4 times over the course of the semester. Please note: Content is subject to change.

Each sketchbook evaluation is worth 4% for an overall subtotal of 16% of your final grade.

Drawing the Human Head
The Great Masses pp15-22
Cranial and facial
Drawing:

  • Construct 6 different heads according methods on page 21
  • 3 from front view
  • 3 side view
  • Add facial, hair, ears etc so that each resembles a real person
  • Sketch the 4 heads on page 22. Add characteristics to each

Week 2 (8/23)

Form Structures of Head pp 24-32
Drawing: Copy drawings on pp 29 and 31

Week 3 (8/30)

Drawing the Human Head
Refining Facial Features pp 36-41
Drawing: 10 pairs eyes having different expressions. You can use pictures from magazines or newspaper.

Week 4 (9/6)

Drawing the Human Head
Refining Facial Features pp 42-45
Drawing: Based on images from from magazines, newspapers or life, make 5 drawings that explore the proportions between the brow, the nose and the lips

Extra credit: Download and copy this drawing of grotesque heads by Da Vinci.

Sketch a portrait from any of the drawings in Chapter 3.
