Your sketchbook will be evaluated 4 times over the course of the semester. Please note: Content is subject to change.
Each sketchbook evaluation is worth 4% for an overall subtotal of 16% of your final grade.
First Evaluation
Value: 4%
Due: 9/18
Week 1 (8/19)
Contour line: Drape a piece of striped material over a model. If you don’t have a model, just drape the material over a chair. If you don’t have a striped material, try using a plaid or something that will make you wrap lines around the entire form (20-30 minutes).

Week 2 (8/26)
Fill 3 pages of your sketchbook with gesture drawings of people walking. Try and capture the extremes of movement, and focus on showing how weight becomes transferred from one side of the body to the next (30-45 minutes).

Week 3 (9/2)
Create 7-10 quick (10-15 minutes each) modeled drawings of people. Use a variety of techniques including, massing, shadow modeling and stippling.

Week 4 (9/9)
Instead of using a model, use your imagination to create drawings of both male and female figures using the eight heads proportional standard. Make 3 detailed (15-30 minutes each).

Week 5 (9/16)
Using a copy of Michelangelo's sculpture David as a model, make a proportional drawing and complete it by using either cross-hatching, shadow blocking or planar hatching. Use the linked images as your guide or find your own. David Example 1 , Example 2
