Line: Definition

Taken by itself, a single line gives a minimum of information, arranged in a crafty design, the illusion of depth can be created.

A simple definition:

A line is a mark made by a tool as it is drawn across a surface. The tool can be almost anything – a pencil, a pointed brush or a computer and a mouse.

  • Lines can almost be cut into a hard surface and this is called engraving.
  • A line can also be called an open path.

There are three categories of line

  • type
  • direction
  • quality
