 Exercise 3

Alphabet Soup

Due Date: 8/9/2004
Assigned On: 8/9/2004
Value: 8 points

Description:
Create a collage by arranging the same letter from a variety of different typefaces in a harmonious composition.

Procedure:
A typology is a study of or analysis or classification based on similar types or categories. The simplest scale is a single note. Emphasis on a single note focuses the awareness on other parameters like structure, form, rhythm and inflection. A good typology brings together a collection of the most notable examples of a form and reveals the sensuous in their difference.

In this exercise we will be creating a typographic typology. In this case let's say our category is the letter E.

Be sure that each example of the letter you choose is taken from a different typeface.
.
Aim for a collage of about 15 to 20 letters.

Create contrast by differentiating between size, color, serif and sans-serif faces, lower and upper case.

Save to the Exercise 3 folder and present your work to the class.

Email your Exercise3.ai file to plvasque@ucsd.edu
