 Color

Color is another term with obvious implications. Just keep in mind that warm colors are active. They come forward and catch the eye. It only takes a little red to create contrast. Cool colors are the opposite. They recede from the eye and you can cover more area with them. In fact you must cover more area to make them visible.

You can see different colors in the black text. "Color" is created by such variations as

  • the weight of the letter-forms

  • the structure

  • the form

  • the space inside the letters,

  • the space between the letters

  • the space between the lines,

  • the size of the type

  • the size of the x-height

Even with one typeface you can create different colors.

Compare the relative contrast created by these different treatments of color.
