The rise of digital technology has made counterfeiting a bigger
problem than it was before the invention of computers.
It is estimated that about 1% of all bills being circulated are
counterfeit
The elements designed to allow real bills to be distinguishable
from counterfeit ones:
-
Security threads: woven into the paper and are only visible
when you hold the bill up to the light.
-
Color shifting ink: tilt a bill up and down and certain kinds
of ink on it change color in the light.
-
Watermark: the portrait image can be embedded into the paper
and is visible from both sides of the bill.
