 Overview

Currency Design is perhaps one of the most challenging tasks anyone could ever take. To encapsulate what a country or region has in its culture, beliefs, history and achievements can be most difficult. Retaining technical requirements against counterfeit and durability is also an aspect which must be considered with much seriousness.

In this lecture we will examine:

  • Currency designs from different countries and different eras. We'll take note of the similarities and differences. We will also try and come to an understanding about what is indespensible when designing currency

  • How the problem of counterfeiting drives currency design

  • How currency can be designed to be useable for the visually impaired

  • The use of themes as a focus for organizing and designing currency
