DataThe Life Cycle of Data

Unprocessed information is data and data is worthless to most of us. The bombardment of our senses on a daily basis is the topic of Richard Saul Wurman's book, Information Anxiety.

 

  • In the beginning there was data

  • Unprocessed data was worthless to most of us

  • Data became information through a process of shaping and forming.

  • Data is very pliable in spirit - that's why statistics can be interpreted so widely.

  • Consider the following formula for turning data into knowledge:

    Data ---> [info design]---> information---> [interaction design/experience]

    ---> knowledge

What lies beyond knowledge?

Experience does.

So take time to get to know your audience and find out what their likes and preferences are.
