Create a 12 step black and white value scale. Use an 18 "x
24" piece of watercolo9r paper with 2 " squares.

A2 Volumetric Still Life using Black
and White
Create a still life using kitchen utensils and appliances
you bring from home. Include objects with a variety of surfaces
such as plastic, metal, wood, iron and glass. Objects can
range from spatulas, to blenders or electric can openers.
In order to enhance your perception of value, use only black
and white paint.
Materials:

A3 Full Color Star
Create a color star based on Johannes Itten's design.

A4 Paper Airplane Painting using Tints
Fold up a paper airplane and make a painting of it using only
tints. We will also closely observe shadows and their color
temperatures.

A5 Saturation Scale Palette
Using two complementary colors chosen using a color wheel
paint a linear scale of 11 squares. If your colors are truly
complementary then the middle square should be a neutral achromatic
grey.

A6 Mosaic/Saturation Scale Grid
Using two complementary colors chosen using a color wheel paint a grid of 2 inch squares that has 6 rows and 8 columns. Create a random distribution of the colors from your saturation palette to make an aesthetic composition.

We will use geometry to investigate the underlying structure
of forms. Use the complementary colors from the previous assignment
as your foundational palette.

A9 Self Portrait Painting
Your goal for this assignment is to use color/hue
arbitrarily yet with some guiding principle. Do this by replacing
the color in the photo with a one that retains the same value
but which replaces the hue with another more symbolic, emotional
or random choice.

A10 Homage to the Old Masters
Our study of the Old Master's technique will include
a trip to the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park.

A 11 Free Form Painting
A free form painting is based on the idea of spontaneity and
experimentation. You may think of children's painting as free
form in asn much as a child's approach to painnting is free
of any pre-conceived idas of what a painting should be. This
format allows mamximum freedon in terms of technique, representation
